A adolescência é o período de transição entre a infância e a vida adulta, caracterizado por atitudes impulsivas como parte do desenvolvimento físico, mental, emocional, sexual e social do indivíduo em busca de alcançar os objetivos relacionados às expectativas culturais da sociedade em que vive. Só que, para amadurecer e se encaixar nas expectativas que a sociedade coloca sobre o adolescente, o jovem sofre e se revolta. É sobre este complicado período na nossa vida que trata o livro que só agora li, “O Apanhador no Campo de Centeio”, de J. D. Salinger. Este romance traduz a confusa mente de um jovem que tenta entender esta passagem. Foi segurando um exemplar deste livro, por exemplo, que o assassino de John Lennon apertou o gatilho que levou para sempre o sonho que o Beatle imaginou em canções.

O protagonista nesta história, o jovem Holden Caulfield, não consegue se enquadrar nos rígidos esquemas das caras escolas onde estuda e das quais é expulso seguidamente. Não tem paciência para ouvir os adultos, tem medo da reação do pai quando souber que foi novamente expulso de mais uma escola, quer conhecer garotas e se envolver romanticamente, quer fugir de casa, quer mudar o mundo. Mas acaba não fazendo nada, pois tem medo, é inseguro e traduz a sua insegurança em uma rebeldia que não consegue controlar. Este livro é um gatilho que traduz com ímpeto os sonhos e pesadelos que, ao contrário do que John Lennon disse, nunca acabam.
