E sobre a morte. Jacqueline Woodson escreve em prosa poética e conduz o leitor a um passado que toca bem de perto no presente que o Brasil vive.

Augusta não aceita a morte. É antropóloga e centra sua pesquisa em rituais funerários de várias culturas. O motivo para a volta ao Brooklyn que deixou na juventude é o enterro do pai. A morte do pai traz a Augusta as memórias de uma juventude que ficou distante, embora mal resolvida, para ela. Uma singela novela que pode ser lida rapidamente. Mas que tem fôlego para ficar dentro do leitor por muito tempo. Por muito tempo, este livro ainda não estará morto.

In 111 pages, Woodson takes the reader to Brooklyn, New York, where, in the 70s, protagonist Augusta grew up. The book is about memories, about being a woman and black, about pain, about loss. And about death. Jacqueline Woodson writes in poetic prose and leads the reader to a past that is  closely connected to the present times in Brazil.

Augusta does not accept death. She is an anthropologist and focuses her research on funerary rituals from different cultures. The reason for the return to the Brooklyn that she left in her youth is her father’s funeral. The death of her dad brings to Augusta the memories of a youth that was distant, although poorly resolved. A simple novel that can be read quickly. But one which has the strength to stay inside the reader for a long time. For a long time, this novel won´t be dead yet.
